Baron of Hell

Overview

Barons of Hell are enemy monsters in the Doom video game series that resemble minotaurs or large satyrs with a demonic upper body and large goat legs.

The Barons of Hell are introduced in the first Doom game at the end of the first episode “Knee-Deep in the Dead,” where two of them serve as the end bosses of the level. Id Software internally referred to these two Barons as the “Bruiser Brothers.” They appear as regular enemies in later episodes of Doom and subsequent sequels, commonly appearing in pairs.

In the Doom manual, Barons are described as “tough as a dump truck and nearly as big, these Goliaths are the worst things on two legs since Tyrannosaurus rex.” The Doom II manual describes them as “The Hell Knight was bad news but this is Big Daddy. These bruisers are a lot like Hell Knights, but look a little different and are twice as tough to kill.” The original Baron of Hell description was instead given to the Hell Knight in Doom II‘s manual.

Powers & Abilities

Barons are one of the most resilient enemies faced in the Doom series, save for the Cyberdemon and the Spiderdemon. They attack by clawing at an opponent when close or from a distance by throwing green comet-like fireballs.
