Colonel Blimp

Character History

Colonel Blimp started out as a more cartoon-like character. He is always depicted as an overconfident and usually incapable military officer.

Batman Comics

In Batman comics Colonel Blimp is a commander of a dirigible. While the character is an homage to the ridiculous cartoon character, he also represents the ideology of radical warfare presented by Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger in their 1943 film The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp. Lastly, the character and story are a throwback to Detective Comics 33, where Batman battled the would be dictator Carl Kruger and his army the Scarlet Horde.

League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen Comics

In the League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen Colonel Blimp is betrayed as a Major. It is possible that this may be his ancestor. He is killed by a heat ray in the War Of The Worlds.
