Preston Case was a United States Army officer frustrated with having to obey orders regardless of the competence or sanity of his superiors. When assigned to move the inert Destroyer armor, his mind became trapped within it. He went on a rampage and was stopped by the combined efforts of Thor and the Avengers. He was exiled by them to another dimension.
Destroyer/Preston was later retrieved and used by the Asgardians against the Dark Gods. Odin rewarded him by restoring him to human form.
