Creation

Coronary was created by Fabian Nicieza and Mark Bagley in 1990 and first appeared in New Warriors # 4.

Biography

Origin

James Sharp was a medical student used by GeneTech as a test subject; he underwent biological experimentation using data that the Mad Thinker harvested from the members of the New Warriors. James took the codename Coronary, and became a member of Genetech’s superhuman strike force, Psionex.

Psionex

The New Warriors went after Genetech, investiagating the Mad Thinker’s experiements, and fought Psionex. Cornonary went toe to toe with Namorita. Namorita used her flight to lift Coronary into the air; he used his powers to give her crippling stomach pain, but she dropped him and he shattered into pieces. His bio-telepathy allowed his to reaseemble himself from shards, and this give him far more control over his powers.

Going Rogue

Tired of being studied and confined, the members of Psionex went rogue, turning against Genetech and taking thier handlers prisoner. Psionex fought the New Warriors once again, and Coronary had a rematch with Namorita, but was defeated by Firestar. However, the fight was inturupted by Terrax, and Coronary was able to escape.

Civil War

During the Civil War, Coronary registers under the Superhuman Registration Act and joins the Thunderbolts Army. The Thunderbolts had to fight off cities filled with civilians who were suddenly empowered when the Grandmaster opened up the Wellspring of Power. The Thunderbolts were broken up into numerous squads and sent to various locations throughout the world. Coronary was part of the Beta squad which also consisted of the Bloodstrike, Smiling Tiger, Texas Twister and Pretty Persuasion. This group was responsible of maintaining order in Los Angeles.

Powers and Abilities

Coronary is able to psionically able to minipulate the biometabolic functions of living organisms. This allowes him to control the muscles, of his foes, and induce vomiting, headaches, or unconsciousness.

Coronary’s body is also constructed out of a transluscent crysteline material, which is strong but very brittle. After his body was shattered, he was able to reform himself, and gradually gained the ability to reshape his own body in a myriad of ways, including shape-shifting, stretching his limbs, and controling his body’s density.

Coronary has gradually increased in size and mass since reforming his body; whether this translates into increased physical ability is unknown.
