In the novel Star Wars Tales from Jabba’s Palace, it was revealed that Jabba considers Ephant Mon to be his most trusted friend and that the two once worked side by side as mercenaries, the book also revealed that Ephant Mon is sensitive to the Force and urged Jabba to free Luke and his friends, and later refused to board the Sail Barge to witness their executions. Though this offended Jabba, he did not add his friend Ephant Mon to the execution, but rather asked him to be gone by the time the crime lord returned, but as Mon suspected, Jabba was not destined to return. Ephant Mon was also a close friend of Skiff Guard Barada.
