Guardian of the Republic of Vichy

Normally there is never more than ONE ‘Garde Republicain’ at any one time in the title’s long history of service, but when the Vichy Regime sided with the Nazis in 1940, the true Guardian (Marc Saint Clair) promptly defected to the French Resistance. This led to Vichy Minister Pierre Laval deciding to bring in their own version of the champion. They chose Bernard de Sault, an agent of it’s Milice (far-right Paramilitary Organization that existed at that time) to don the mantle.

What he lacked in the rigorous training, Bernard made up for it with vicious sadism and steroids to compete with the true article (who was going by the codename “Maquis”) as they battled for the fate of France during World War 2.

His tenure was ended, along with his life, in 1944 during the closing days of the War.
