Heatstroke

Origin

Little is known about the origin of Heatstroke. Born and raised in the 25th century, he joined the police force and later became a member of the elite Reverse Flash Task Force, otherwise known as the Renegades. During his work with the team he became injured in some unknown event, requiring the use of a healing suit.

Creation

Heatstroke was created by Geoff Johns and Francis Manapul. He is closely based on Heat Wave. He made his first appearance in The Flash #1.

Major Story Arcs

The Dastardly Death of the Rogues

Still injured, Heatstroke joins his team in travelling back in time to capture the Flash, who they believe is responsible for the murder of their teammate Mirror Monarch. While in the past, his teammate Top confides that he is not confident that what they are doing is right. Heatstroke is unable to talk him out of leaving the team, and later informs Commander Cold that they have been betrayed. When they are attacked by the Rogues, he battles Captain Cold. Later, he helps his team capture Flash and bring him to trial in the 25th century. He joins his team in returning to the past one last time to take the traitor Top into custody.

Powers and Abilities

Heatstroke has no known superhuman powers or abilities. He is a trained police officer, suggesting that he has been trained as a detective, as well as receiving armed and unarmed combat training. He is familiar with future technology, including time travel.

Weapons and Equipment

Heatstroke wields a heat gun that enables him to generate flames, as well as fields of intense heat that can be used to burn away speedsters’ protective auras. He wears a protective suit that defends him for the extreme heat of his weapons, as well as accelerating healing. Like the other Renegades, he has access to time travel technology in the form of a time platform, which also allows him to fly.
