Jiang Li was a wife of Zheng Zu, mother of Shang-Chi and Shi-Hua.
Shang-Chi thought his mother was dead, but she was living in the Negative Zone.
Creation
Jiang Li was created specifically for the 2021 live action motion picture, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings from the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The character was introduced into Earth-616 canon with Shang-Chi #4 (2021), written by Gene Luen Yang and illustrated by Dike Ruan. The name Jiang Li was used promotional material from the film, however, when it was released, the character was called Ying Li, Gene Luen Yang opted for the originally featured name.
At the origin of Shang-Chi, he was half Caucasian, the son of an unidentified American woman.
