Major Story Arcs

Despite Roy’s inability to stick to a wedding date, Kay continued to love him. The two set another date and try to cement it by finding their future home. They find the perfect place and go to Roy’s hotel to celebrate. Kay is dismayed when Roy announces he has to leave after receiving an urgent telegram about his father needing an operation. While he is away, Kay’s friends Midge and Ruth give her grief about Roy’s inability to settle down.

When Roy returns Kay begs him to marry her right away. He informs her that his parents needed help and he gave them all of his money. Kay gets angry and accuses him of not being as committed as she, but he explains that he just wants a good foundation for their marriage. Kay accepts this and goes home. At home, Midge announces that she is engaged. The wedding comes quickly and Kay hates that the other girls all laugh her to scorn. Roy tries to calm her down but she spontaneously breaks up with him. To help Kay rebound, Ruth sets her up on a double date for the very next night.

The next night, Kay meets Michael, a handsome and suave man. They go on a few dates and enjoy each other’s company. Ruth tries to warn Kay that Michael can be pretty high-strung but to no avail. One night, Michael has news but gets interrupted when Roy shows up at their dinner table. He accuses Kay of being a gold digger. She is hurt and follows Michael out. She learns what Michael is so giddy about while on a drive. He asks her to marry him. She gets confused at the suddenness of it all, especially after learning that Michael has taken a job in South America and wants to take her with him. She declines his request and he gets angry. He drives their car off a bridge.

Kay wakes up in the hospital pretty banged up. She laments to Ruth how she has lost Roy forever. Ruth explains that she found Roy and had a chat with him. Roy then enters the room and admits to why he is always postponing their wedding: his father was always angry that his mother pressured a fast marriage while the mother was always angry that his father wasn’t the best provider. Roy just wanted to ensure neither of those things happened with he and Kay. Kay agrees to marry him again.
