Origin
One of the wealthiest people in Gotham, Maria Powers owns the most expensive residence in Gotham City (The Powers’ Hotel) with her husband Joseph. The Hotel was built during the Great Depression and was more than likely the possession of Joseph’s family before falling into his and Maria’s ownership. At some point Maria would join The Court of Owls, becoming one of Gotham’s most influential members of the Court.

Maria Powers was created by Scott Snyder & Greg Capullo for their acclaimed saga A Court of Owls in 2012.

Assault on the Court (City of Owls)
Upon returning to her residence by the elevator in The Power’s Hotel, Maria Powers finds her room in a state of disarray. Attempting to call Security, Maria is stopped by Batman who traps her in the elevator. Interrogating her about the location of her husband Joseph (Also a member of the Court of Owls), Maria lies and tells Batman he has left the country before threatening him that the Court will always win. Knowing she is lying, Batman leaves. Once he has left, Maria rings her husband to warn him. However Batman was aware of this and managed to trace the call to Joseph’s location.
