Mata Nui – Matoro

Matoran villagers of Mata Nui live and work in six villages around the island.

Matoro is the sole interpreter of Turaga Nuju’s mystical stories, following the meaning of the storyteller’s movements and tones. He always stands motionless on Nuju’s right during storytelling. He strikes a narrator’s pose with his legs apart, head back and he uses his deep and booming voice to relay Nuju’s wisdom. Matoro stays close to Nuju since the Bohrok have awoken, so he’s close at hand whenever the Turaga hold their councils.

The Matoran joined the Toa and Turaga to journey to the city of Metru Nui.

Toa Inika Matoro

They arrived on Voya Nui as Matoran villagers on a rescue mission. Once on the floating island, they were hit by lightning bolts from the Red Star, which transformed them into Toa Inika. Their mission: find the Mask of Life and use it to save the Great Spirit Mata Nui.

A blast of frigid air … a blizzard of ice … Toa Inika Matoro has arrived! The Toa Inika of Ice combines his elemental cold power with pure lightning to stop the Piraka. He carries an energized ice sword, a zamor sphere launcher, and wears the Kanohi Iden, the Mask of Spirit.

Searching for the Mask of Life, they travelled to Mahri Nui, where they were attacked by Zyglak. The Toa Inika fled into the water where they were transformed into the Toa Mahri by the energies of the Mask of Life.

Toa Mahri Matoro

Once, they were the powerful Toa Inika. Now the energies of the Mask of Life have transformed them into the undersea warriors, the Toa Mahri! Armed with Cordak blasters, new weapons, and new masks, the Toa Mahri must challenge the evil Barraki to save the life of Mata Nui!

There’s an icy chill in the water when Toa Mahri Matoro comes near! Armed with his twin cutter and Cordak revolving blaster, Matoro will battle his way to victory. His Mask of Reanimation lets him bring back the victims of the Barraki’s armies to form a legion against them.

Putting on the mask, Toa Matoro’s body transformes into pure energy – the very energy that can bring Mata Nui back to life. Knowing he must sacrifice his own existence to save the universe, Matoro uses his last moments to send the other Toa Mahri back to Metru Nui and make them amphibious, so they can live on land once more. Then his energies combine with those of the Mask of Life in a massive burst of light and brings the Great Spirit back to life.
