Panoramix

Origin

Panoramix (a.k.a. Getafix in the English translations) is the village druid in the Asterix comics series. His appearance is that of the standard old wise wizard like character. Tall and lanky, long white beard, long white robe, long cape, etc. In the story he is usually depicted with a little golden sickle. He seems to have lived for a long time in the story. While telling the story of Asterix‘s birth, we Panoramix as the same age, while all the other older characters are seen as young children. Other characters in the story often refer to him has their elder even though they are much older looking themselves.

Creation

Panoramix was created for the Asterix series by French writer Rene Goscinny and illustrator Albert Uderzo. The series was published in the French magazine Pilote.

Character Evolution

Panoramix seems to fit the role of other old and wise men who tend to mentor the younger heroes. Similar to Obi-Wan Kenobi of the Star Wars series and Merlin. He has that old man sense of humor and is often depicted as the friend of the story’s main characters. His English translation name is a reference to what he provides people. “Get-a-fix” refers to his ability to get people the potions they desire/need.

Major Story Arcs

Panoramix appears in virtually all of the Asterix stories. The series was a large collection of little stories and lacked any major large story arcs.

Powers and Abilities

Panoramix is known for his magical and medical potions.Most notably ones that can generate great strength. He also has potions that make your hair grow quickly, potions that cure poisons, and ones that restore health.
