Scott

HISTORY

Scott is a trapper who his thought by his peers to be a bully. He is actually a murderer, as he killed another trapper he found in his area with a hand axe.

While vacationing with Detective Speed, Rang-a-Tang discovers the body of the victim. Richy the Amazing Boy informs Hy Speed, who comes over to examine. They discover the axe wound in head of the corpse.

As they return to camp to send authorities to the crime scene, they see Scott allowing his dog to attack a much smaller dog. Detective Speed tells Scott to stop the fight, but the trapper refuses. Rang-a-Tang enters the dogfight on behalf of the smaller canine, but Scott strikes the German Shepherd on the head with a heavy stick. Hy punches Scott, who retaliates by throwing his axe into the detective’s leg.

The other men at the camp chase after Scott. Rang-a-Tang wanders off confused and without his memory. The dog he helped in the fight accompanies him. from being struck in the head.

Hy gets his leg bandaged up and enters a period of recovery. Richy tells the recuperating detective that everyone knows Scott is the murderer. He says he’s going to look for Rang. Richy sets out into the woods.

Rang-a-Tang and his canine companion are hungry. The pair waylay a bear and begin to eat the meat. Richy investigates a cabin he found when Scott attacks him. The pair scuffle on the edge of a cliff, with Scott threatening to throw the boy over the precipice. Richy calls for help, which jogs Rang-a-Tang’s memory. The faithful friend rushes to rescue Richy. Rang attacks Scott. Scott again uses the stick on Rang and dazes the dog. Scott raises the stick to deliver the death-blow, but the smaller dog rushes up and attacks the trapper’s arm. Rang leaps at Scott, pushing the murderer and the smaller dog over the edge. Richy stops Rang from following them down.

After climbing down the cliff, they find Scott and the small dog dead. After they bury the dog, Richy goes to find lumberjacks to retrieve Scott’s body. Rang-a-Tang mourns his friend by howling.
