Pre Mortal Kombat
Queen Sindel was one of the rulers of Edenia along with her husband King Jerrod. Edenia was a prosperous realm that was peaceful and beautiful. Edenia was also a target for Shao Kahn and his armies. Since the Elder Gods wanted to prevent the merge of realms, they instilled the rules of Mortal Kombat. Outworld was able to win 10 tournaments in a row, allowing Shao Kahn to merge the realms and kill King Jerrod. Through conquest, Sindel was made the Empress of Outworld. Shao Kahn was also going to kill Sindel’s young daughter Kitana, though Sindel was able to save her life by pleading her worth to Shao Kahn as a potential warrior. Kitana would be trained as one of Shao Kahn’s personal assassins alongside her friend Jade. Due to the savagery in Outworld and the atrocities committed against Edenia, Sindel committed suicide, using her death to prevent Shao Kahn from invading Earthrealm. Shao Kahn would not let her soul rest though; he held her soul in Outworld to torture her for the rest of eternity. Shao Kahn would later enact a plan to ressurect his former wife in a bid to invade Earthrealm if Shang Tsung failed to win the realm through Mortal Kombat. Shao Kahn was right to plan ahead.
Mortal Kombat 3
WIth the failure of Shang Tsung to achieve victory in Mortal Kombat over Earthrealm in both the Earth tournament and the Outworld tournament, Shao Kahn with the help of Quan Chi ressurected Queen Sindel on Earthrealm. This act undid her ward around the realm and returned her to the Emperor with out her memory and a more willing participant in his conquests. Shao Kahn was able to partially merge the realms and stole the souls of the majority of the population. With Earthrealms warriors spared by Raiden, Shao Kahn organized extermination squads under his generals command to hunt these warriors done and kill them. Sindel would lead one of these squads. After Liu Kang was able to defeat Shao Kahn in battle, Kitana was able to free her mother from Kahn’s spell leading Shao Kahns defeat to be two fold. He lost his chance at Earthrealm and lost control over Edenia. Sindel was able to reclaim her thrown and not only vowed to bring Edenia to its former glory, but to also bring Shao Kahn down for his crimes against existence.
Mortal Kombat 4
Sindel had a handful in restoring her realms former glory after the damage Shao Kahn caused. She was betrayed by the daughter of Edenia’s ambassador Tanya. Tanya conspired with Shinnok and Quan Chi to invade Edenia in its weakened state by possing as refugees from an unnamed realm. When Sindel questioned their origin Quan Chi presented an orb that paralyzed Sindel, allowing him to take her thrown and consolidate the Netherealm forces in Edenia. Princess Kitana was able to escape and brought her allies from Earthrealm to fight the fallen Elder God and his demon forces. Sindel was kept in her own dungeon by the demons.Enraged at another invasion of her precious realm, Sindel sent Kitana to negotiate a treaty with the Shokans against Shao Kahn. Goro representing the Shokan singed the treaty of piece after a ceromonial strike from Kung Lao in response to his ancestors death at Goro’s hands. With the treaty Sindel was finally in a good position to strike against Shao Kahn.
Mortal Kombat Deception
Sindels plans would be carried out for her when the Deadly Alliance killed Shao Kahn. With that Sindel sent her daughter Kitana to aid Earthrealm against the sorcerers Quan Chi and Shang Tsung. During the fight Kitana was personally killed by Quan Chi while her allies were killed by Baraka’s Tarkatan hordes. The sorcerers victory was short lived when the ressurceted Dragon King Onaga stormed Shang Tsung’s palace looking for Shinnok’s amulet in Quan Chi’s possession. The Dragon King reclaimed his mummified army and stormed through Outworld, Onaga committed a worse treason when he used his powers to bring back the dead warriors, including Kitana, and use them against their former allies and friends. Onaga would go on to conquerer Edenia and again locked Sindel in her own dungeon with her daughter Kitana as her guard. Luckily for Sindel, Jade was able to defeat her friend Kitana and free the Edenian Queen and escape the Dragon King’s armies.
Mortal Kombat Armageddon
With her realm again conquererd by an invading force and her daughter subjugated by Onaga, Sindel was in a bad position. With the gathering of the Forces of Light and Darkness, Sindel was reuinted with her daughter who had been freed from Onaga’s control by Ermac and the spirit of Liu Kang. After Johnny Cage gathered the heroes Sindel joined them in the final fight around the Pyramid of Argus. She fought to the end, but ended up dying when one of Quan Chi’s necro controlled skeletons shoved a sword through her stomach. Shao Kahn was the one to win the god like pwer of Blaze and used his new status to spread Armageddon among the realms. Raiden used his magic to send a message back in time to prevent this outcome.
Mortal Kombat 2011
With the alternate timeline Sindel is again resurrected when Shao Kahn needs to stage an invasion of Earthrealm. Raiden had seen a vison of Sindel’s coming during the invasion. Sindel’s ressurection was personally carried out by Quan Chi and Noob Saibot. She again returned to Shao Kahn willing to kill even her own daughter to accomplisher her husbands goals. When Motoro was killed by Raiden during the invasion, Sindel was promoted to head of the extermination squads and given the power held by Shang Tsung by Shao Kahn, killing the sorcerer in the process. Sindel then lead a detachment of the Lin Kuei Cyborgs against Earthrealms warriors though she held back while the cyborgs were defeated. Sindel then proceeded to kill Kabal, Cyber Sub-Zero, Kurtis Stryker, Smoke, Kitana, Jade, and wound Johnny Cage and Sonya Blade. Nightwolf then faced her in combat and sacrificed himself to kill her. When Raiden goes to bargin with Quan Chi to get his aide against Shao Kahn by offering the souls of those that die during the conflict, Quan Chi summons all the dead warriors including Sindel who has become his slave.

Movie appearance
Sindel appeared in Mortal Kombat: Annihilation and is eventually turned to the forces of light by Kitana. According to legend, she is first believed to be the key to closing Shao Kahn’s portals to Earth, then her daughter is believed to be the key. On her initial capture and reunion with Kitana, this legend is, confusingly, revealed to be “a lie” and Sindel escapes from the Earthrealm warriors, before later facing Kitana in final battle. She only has a limited role in the movie, and is noted for her cheesy lines of dialogue. A dialogue between Kitana and Shao Kahn reveals that Kahn drove Sindel to commit suicide, another aspect from the games that the directors got correct. When Kahn orders Sindel to mount a defense around the ruins of the Temple of Light, he threatens to “feed her rotting corpse to the worms” if she fails him. When Sindel is brought back to life after Kahn’s defeat, her change in alliances occurs, and she wears a symbolic white dress (rather than her purple and black outfit) to denote this. She is portrayed by South African actress Musetta Vander.
Beatrice Ilg appears as Sindel in Mortal Kombat: Legacy. In Legacy, Sindel is at first a happy queen with her husband Jerrod and infant daughter, when Shao Khan attacks, after winning ten Mortal Kombat tournaments in a row over Edenia, in order to fuse the realms. Jerrod appears to his wife and daughter and takes them into hiding when he’s killed by Baraka, as he laid dying it’s revealed that the Jerrod was a fake, one of his loyal minions in his guise and he is no where to be found. A now heartbroken Sindel is forced into marrying Shao Khan, who is strongly infatuated with her, though she shows nothing but contempt for him. She is repulsed when she finds that her child has been cloned into Mileena, who lays beside Kitana as if they were normal twins. Sindel sacrifices her body in a ritual so her soul can merge with her daughter, Kitana, so she may avoid being corrupted by her adoptive father. What has happened to Sindel’s body remains unknown at the moment.
