Yoda is a character from the Star Wars franchise created by George Lucas. Yoda’s face was partially based off of Einstein’s, mainly the forehead wrinkles to make him appear wise and intelligent. Frank Oz, the puppeteer for Yoda in Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, and The Phantom Menace, developed Yoda’s voice, his distinctive way of talking, and even aspects of his personality.

Character Evolution:

Jedi Master Yoda
Jedi Master Yoda

From a young age Yoda had trained as a Jedi by N’Kata Del Gormo, learning the ways of the Force and keeping balance in the galaxy. Living for 900 years Yoda had worked his way up the ranks of the Jedi Order becoming a member of the Jedi High Council and eventually the Jedi Grand Master.

Before and during the Clone Wars, Yoda was one of the more powerful Jedi in the entire order. He served at teacher and master to most, giving wisdom and guidance to Jedi Knights and Masters alike, while also teaching basics to young padawan learners in training. During the Clone Wars Yoda still served as teacher but was divided between being a general conducting a war throughout the galaxy.

After the Clone Wars and following the Order 66, Yoda went into hiding in the Dagobah System. The planet’s abundance of life masked his presence from the Empire until the arrival of a young Luke Skywalker. After the death of Obi-Wan Kenobi it was left to Yoda to teach Luke more about the force. After nearly becoming a Jedi Knight Luke was baited away from Dagobah and fell into a trap that injured him long enough to suspend his training. He would return to an aged and dying Yoda who admitted his training to become a Jedi was almost complete. Yoda perished and became one with the force, giving him the ability to pass on his knowledge within the force itself.

Not much is known of this legendary Jedi Grand Master, It can be presumed details aren’t clear to Yoda either, nine hundred years is a long way to think back to, but some details have been made clear. At Yoda’s early life he didn’t know he was Force-sensitive nor did an unidentified human counterpart know he was tuned with the Force either. The two left their home planet, which has never been identified and still remains a secret, if Yoda remembers the name or what the planet looked like is unknown. Yoda and his friend had set off toward the core worlds to find employment. En-route their old ship was caught amongst by an asteroid and their ship was damaged beyond their ability to repair, which seemed most disastrous at the time.

They would spend days floating around in space, their supplies and oxygen running out quicker than the two wanted them to. In an attempt to save their lives they rebooted their power systems to get them far enough into an unrecognized star system, in which they crash landed on a swamp planet, which can only be presumed as Dagobah but it had never been clarified. with the two’s signal for a rescue ship still going strong all they could do was wait to be picked up, hoping they wouldn’t starve to death in the process. During their stay on the swamp planet the two Force beings were found by Jedi Master N’Kata Del Gormo, who sensed them to be one with the force and revealed to them this power. Not detesting at their age, which was clearly not the age most Jedi started training, Master Gormo taught both Yoda and his human friend the way of the force. Shortly after their training the two Jedi were picked up by a Galactic Republic starship. It is very likely the “rescue” was indeed planed by the Jedi Master N’Kata Del Gormo.

One of his great feats in his early life was his training of young jedi. Most notoriously he trained Count Dooku into an excellent swordsman who’s skills could only be replicated by Yoda and Mace Windu. He also trained Cin Drallig, who was promptly made a master on the council, and during the clone wars was elevated to battlemaster of the council.

Later Life

Master Yoda was the Grand Master of the Jedi and was respected as the most powerful of the jedi. One of the only creatures known to have a higher midi-chlorine count is Anakin Skywalker. Master Yoda spearheaded the decision to deny Qui-Gonn’s request to teach Anakin, believing-correctly as we find out later-that the boy was too attached to his mother.

Master Yoda served the Old Republic for decades maybe even centuries. In this, he would fight against his former padawan Count Dooku. This was one of the most impressive battles Yoda had fought and showed the vast power he held in his small frame. He became a general in the clone army, He would later battle Darth Sidious in the Senate until fleeing and he nurtured and expanded the Jedi Order and taught countless younglings. Master Yoda was one of the survivors of Order 66, at the time he resided upon Kashyyk where he was aiding the Wookie cause, luckily he sensed the 2 clones who arrived to kill him, quickly dispatched them and left with the aid of Chewbacca.

Master Yoda barely escaped Order 66, only with a backup plan and help from the wookies was he able to escape from Kashyyyk, using an escape pod to the

nearst system, which he then went to coursant from. Master Yoda probably predicted the clones would turn on the Jedi so he had the backup plan of the escape pod. Without the help of Chewbecca and Tarfful, who escorted and defended Yoda.

Following this, he arrived upon the space ship of Senator Bail Organa, a supporter of the jedi and a soon to be foster father of Leia, and Obi-Wan, who at the time was the only other Jedi who was believed to have survived the Purge. Here they realised that the distress beacon at the Jedi Temple was going off and that this was likely luring jedi to their death. Therefore the 2 masters infiltrated the base and turned off the signal, but it was here where they first realised of how far Anakin had descended into the dark side, following his massacre of the younglings.

Master Yoda died on the system of Dagobah at the age of around 900 years old. He died in the presence of Luke Skywalker after Luke asked him to help finish his training.

Powers and Abilities:

Yoda Using the Force

Yoda has been considered the greatest Jedi Master of the era by many, he was one of the most skilled users of the Force in the history of the entire galaxy. Yoda was so strong in the Force that he has demonstrated the ability to effortlessly disarm powerful opponents like the Dark Jedi Asajj Ventress with a simple gesture. In addition to this, Master Yoda was capable of easily controlling individuals and enter into the minds of others and decipher their thoughts with great precision. Despite his small stature, Yoda was capable of extreme telekinetic feats, such as lifting enormous objects with the Force, such as Luke Skywalker’s X-Wing, or a giant pillar which was dropped upon Ankain and Obi-Wan by Dooku, and even disarming the Dark Jedi Asajj Ventress with a mere wave of his hand.

Yoda was a master of all the seven lightsaber forms, and could use the Force to enhance his physical attributes immensely, allowing him to carry a crate with a cannon on his back for miles.

Size matters not. Look at me. Judge me by my size, do you? Hmm? Hmm. And well you should not. For my ally is the Force, and a powerful ally it is.
