Arvok was manipulated by his mother and father to duel Jake Sully for being the clan leader. Unknown to him the blade he used was poisoned by Artsut. Arvok lost the battle, and threw his blade at Jake in anger nicking him. It was enough to poison Jake. To his surprise however, his own mother pushed all the blame on him. Jake was saved by the cooperation of humans and Na’vi, and he was ready to forgive Arvok. Seeing that Jake is a honorable man, Arvok offered to be punished by exile with his family. During their travels Arvok left his parents as they had no consideration for him earlier, they only wanted vengeance.
