HISTORY
Slick runs the wax figure museum of cutthroats at the traveling carnival. As a lucrative sideline, he also heads a trio of pick-pockets with the other two disguised as some of the wax figures. Bart is disguised as a pirate while the third accomplice is dressed as a Native American. When their targets realize their pockets are being picked, Bart and the other man murder them. The trio then disposes of the body by turning it into a permanent display for the wax museum.
Detective Hy Speed is informed by Mr. Quigley about the disappearances. He starts an investigation with Rang-a-Tang, Richy the Amazing Boy, and Trigger Quick assisting. Speed recognizes that Slick is running a pick-pocket’s racket of warning people about pick-pockets in the crowd to allay suspicions. Slick captures the detective by using a pistol. Trigger Quick and Richy discover the pick-pockets in the hall of killers display when Trigger accidentally tosses his joke sneezing powder in the Native American’s face, causing the thug to sneeze. Bart and his murderous accomplice try to kill them, but they fight their way out. The pick-pockets run away with Richy and Rang in pursuit. Trigger gets on the parachute ride for a better view of the carnival.
Slick forces Hy toward a vat of boiling wax. As the barker leans to push the detective, Rang rushes in and pushes Slick into the cauldron of wax instead.
Trigger Quick observes the killers from his vantage point and begins shouting to alert Hy and other officials. The murderous figures in wax are subdued and arrested.
