HISTORY
After Richy the Amazing Boy and Rang-a-Tang save Roaraway, Russ Cooper‘s horse, from a barn fire, Detective Speed deduces it was arson. Beetle and his accomplice then bribe Cooper’s jockey Eddie to throw the race. Seeing the interchange, Ricky confronts Eddie and reveals the plot. Richy takes over as Roaraway’s jockey.
A bookie named Squint Eyes Breznek, the thug for whom Beetle and his accomplice work, is displeased at there failed attempts. Breznek has a lot of money riding on Roaraway’s failure. He tells them to kidnap Cooper, which they do. They then have Cooper write a note to Hy Speed to have the detective scratch Roaraway out of the race. Cooper puts in a code for Hy to read. The detective uses the information to rescue Cooper. Trigger Quick tries to place a bet on Roaraway, yet gets confused. He thinks he lost and tears up his ticket. When Roaraway wins, Speed tells him that the number 2 was Roaraway. Trigger humorously ends up trying to find the pieces of the ticket so he can cash in.
